Raphael Assunção (born July 19, 1982) is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who currently competes in the bantamweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
During 2009 to 2010 many MMA publications considered Assunção to be one of the top 10 featherweight fighters in the world.[1] His lone submission loss came at the hands of (at the time BJJ brown belt) Urijah Faber.[2] His brother Junior Assunção also fights for the UFC.

Assunção joined the WEC in 2009, with a record of 12-1. He made his WEC debut at WEC 40, defeating Jameel Massouh via unanimous decision on April 5, 2009.
He followed this up with a win against Yves Jabouin on September 2, 2009 at WEC 43, which he won by split decision.[3]
Assunção was defeated by Urijah Faber via submission at WEC 46.[4]
Assunção then faced Diego Nunes on June 20, 2010 at WEC 49.[5] He lost the fight via Split Decision.
Assunção defeated LC Davis via unanimous decision on November 11, 2010 at WEC 52.[6]
On October 28, 2010, World Extreme Cagefighting merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As part of the merger, all WEC fighters were transferred to the UFC.[7]
Assunção was expected to face Manvel Gamburyan on March 19, 2011 at UFC 128[8], but Gamburyan was forced out of the bout with a back injury[9] and replaced by Erik Koch.[10] He lost the fight via KO in the first round.
Assunção was expected to face Darren Uyenoyama on August 27, 2011 at UFC 134 but instead fought Johnny Eduardo. He won the fight via unanimous decision and is out up to 6 months with a possible nasal fracture.[11]
